  • Mighty drinking songs for fans of Joss Whedon's Firefly and Serenity--the perfect sound for hoisting a mug of mudder's milk. Get the 20 page songbook packed with lyrics-only to all of my Firefly-inspired songs, including: Firefly Drinking Songs, As Long As I'm Flyin', Kilted For Her Pleasure, and What Color Is Your Dragon? plus lyrics from Bedlam Bards' Browncoat album, On the Drift.

It all began while I was watching an episode of Firefly called “Jaynestown”. In it, one of our antiheroes is drinking in a pub worried he’s gonna be arrested for past crimes he committed in Canton when a musician starts singing a song about him. The song is called the “Hero of Canton“.

It turns out, “Hero of Canton” even inspired me to ask the question, “What other songs might’ve been heard in that pub in Canton?”

I began a mission to write some of those songs. But I didn't do it alone. I wrote them with my friends James "Cedric" Hazlerig, Rie Sheridan Rose, and various Browncoats.

Archive your music. In 2011, there was a big change in how I recorded music and what I recorded. It was the start of the drinking songs era as I moved from traditional Irish and Scottish songs to Celtic Geek music, what I now call Sci F'Irish music.

Rise of The Celtfather (currently titled "Rise of the Celtic Geek") includes all of my albums from 2011 until 2018. It also includes my Kilted Kings project, Captain Black Jack Murphy, the Pirates vs Dragons Podcast, a few compilations and just to really bring it home how far I have come, you'll get my first recording ever, circa 1988. It's not pretty. But I think it helps tell a great story.

"Take my love / take my land / take me where I cannot stand
I don't care / I'm still free / you can't take the sky from me"

What beautiful words from the theme song from the TV cult classic Firefly. This new Musical Pin highlights those first words. It shows your love for the show. But it also shows your willingness to give love into the world.

Every day when my daughter Inara comes home from school, I ask her, "Did you do anything nice for someone today?" She now knows the routine. She tells me of the nice things she did.

This Musical Pin is a great way to shine your light on love. Plus, it shines a light on one of the best TV shows ever. And you also get to wear my second album of Firefly songs on your sleeve.

But a Musical Pin. Let love shine!

lyrics Rie Sheridan Rose, music Marc Gunn * [Eb]As long as I'm [Bb]flyin' that [Cm]means that I'm [Bb]free and [Eb]out in the {Bb]Black is like [F]Heaven to [Gm]me. [F]Stars shine like diamonds in the [Eb]black velvet [Bb]night I'm [F]telling you true, 'tis a [Eb]beautiful [F]sight. And [Eb]round 'bout those stars are [Bb]planets that spin [Eb]Alliance and [Bb]Rebel, [F]women and [Gm]men. * Whatever your side, wherever you roam there's room in the Black that you can call home. Rovers and outlaws, companions and thieves. There's room in those skies for all who believe. * The signal went out and I answered the call. It led me out here to sing for you all. So pull me a beer. Let's toast to the Black. As long as I'm flyin' there's nothing I lack.

Wear the Brown with Pride lyrics Rie Sheridan Rose, music Marc Gunn * [C]Lift a glass to [F]freedom, [C]show your Rebel [G]pride. [C]Lift a [G]glass to [C]Browncoats, [F]especially [G]those who [C]died. The [C]Browncoat is a [F]symbol, [C]throughout the ‘Verse it’s [F]known— [C]A Browncoat stands for [F]freedom and we [C]take it [G]for our [C]own! [C]The Alliance tried to [F]break us when [C]we stood against their [G]might but [C]we Rebels don’t [F]break easy and we [C]won’t give [G]up the [F]fight! * We may cling to the shadows, but it doesn’t mean we’re gone. We trudge on through the darkness ‘cause we’re waiting for the dawn! The movement started quiet, with a leather coat of brown, but it’s growing like a storm cloud, and it will not be held down. * Tell the Rebel story, Tell it far and wide-- spread the Browncoat legend for the sake of those who tried. The Browncoats keep a’flyin’ and they fight for what is right. Standing strong ‘gainst the Alliance in the cold black of the night. * *

The Long Arm 02:51
[G]The Long Arm is reaching for you Wants to [C]twist/wrest and take [G]control It [C]struck down your [G]family Now it's [Em]aimin' for your [D]soul [D7] It's [C]grasp is filled with [G]hate It's [C]fingers naught but [G]fear [C]White knuckled, it grips you Til your [C]eyes [D]fill with [G] tears * [C]We fight for freedom, freedom For [G]poetry and song We fight for [C]actors and authors, painters and potters, Dancers and dreamers, Laborers and learners It's them [G]artists who make us [D]strong [D7] The Long Arm took our planet Down our throats, it done rammed The promise of unification But it left us all damned Laid waste to our landscape While its pockets grew fat Left us homeless and cold Now it's time we fight back We're done running from the Long Arm Browncoats rise again We'll weaken your grip And the stories you spin Like you done with all your lies That you packed in your fist But you ain't seen the truth yet Till you seen us resist

lyrics Rie Sheridan Rose, music Marc Gunn Let's raise a glass to flyin' where the Devil fears to tred. To risk the chance of dyin' for the bright stars overhead. Let's raise a glass to free men Though we haven't got a dime. Our ship's as fine as Eden as to the stars we climb. Let's raise a glass to runnin' If the rules get in our way— It's better to be flyin'... We can fight another day. Let's raise a glass to tryin' when they kick you in the teeth. To getting up, not cryin', To stand for your beliefs. Let's raise a glass to crewmates- Though manners they may lack When they know a threat awaits, they've always got your back. Let's raise a glass to pilots, who keep us in the sky. To engineers in violet who keep this old girl spry. Let's raise a glass to sighin' o'er the ones we leave behind. But you know I'd be lyin' if I said I really mind. Let's raise a glass to this ol' ship There's no finer in the ‘Verse. She's surely worth another sip— My blessing and my curse. Chords Verse: [D]Let's raise a glass [G]to flyin' [D]where the Devil fears [G] to tred. [D]To risk the chance [G]of dyin' for the [D]bright stars over-[A]head.

Hero of Canton aka The Ballad of Jayne Jayne, the man they call Jayne He robbed from the rich And he gave to the poor Stood up to the man And gave him what for Our love for him now Ain't hard to explain The hero of Canton The man they call Jayne Our Jayne saw the mudders' backs breakin' He saw the mudders' lament And he saw the magistrate takin' Every dollar and leavin' five cents So he said “you can't do that to my people” He said “you can't crush them under your heel” So Jayne strapped on his hat And in 5 seconds flat Stole everythin' Boss Higgins had to steal He robbed from the rich And he gave to the poor Stood up to the man And gave him what for Our love for him now Ain't hard to explain The hero of Canton The man they call Jayne Now here is what separates heroes From common folk like you and I The man they call Jayne He turned 'round his plane And let that money hit sky He dropped it onto our houses He dropped it into our yards The man they called Jayne He stole away our pain And headed out for the stars He robbed from the rich And he gave to the poor Stood up to the man And gave him what for Our love for him now Ain't hard to explain The hero of Canton The man they call Jayne.

She's Shiny! 04:20
* She's shiny! Oh so shiny! Don't say a word. I'm in love with that girl She's shiny! Oh so shiny! She keeps me spinning round and round in a whirl Carryin' the weight of heartache from her past. A-runnin' towards a future that won't last What a beaut'! That girl makes my heart soar She lights the night like a brightly shining... star Dressed up for fancy ball in the dark of night. Ain't gonna pull my punches, cuz I love to fight. 'Fore I knew, things got out of control I set my sights on makin' it out whole Sometimes she doesn't like the way I deal Sometimes she lets me know with steel Sometimes she sets good men on fire Climb aboard and she'll ride up your spire. I found her in a down and out, dirty place Head down, feelin' a disgrace. Looked inside and saw hope in her eyes I knew one day that Firefly would fly! * [G]She's shiny! Oh so [Em]shiny! Don't [D]say a word. I'm in love with that [Em]girl She's [G]shiny! Oh so [Em]shiny! She keeps me [D]spinning round and round in a [Em]whirl [C]Carryin' the weight of heartache from her [G]past. [C]A-runnin' towards a future that won't [G]last [C]What a beaut'! That girl makes my heart [G]soar She [D]lights the night like a brightly shining... [Em]star

Browncoat Baby lyrics and music by Marc Gunn Browncoat baby In your daddy's arms Wearing your Jayne's hat With all of Kaylee's charm I wonder what in life You might be And the choices you decide Or disagree Browncoat baby As I watch you grow big Will you be like Malcolm Or River dance a wild jig Will you be a doctor Just like Simon Tam Or perhaps you'll learn to pilot Your own pram Browncoat baby Will your life be full and fun? Will you follow Shephard Book And embrace religion I see you stacking up those blocks Perhaps an engineer Or the way you move those rocks, you'll Work on a pier Browncoat baby You're my inspiration I wanna build you A Firefly nation See you soar like an albatross So wild and free And watch you return to land Home safe with me. Browncoat baby You are perfect to me Just like a companion With her tea ceremony You've the brawn as well as the brains Just like Zoe You're the ship that keeps on flyin' Serenity

Blue Sun 02:29
Blue Sun by Marc Gunn Date written, unknown, refound June 28, 2014. They terraformed the lands of many fine worlds Then bloodied our hands with our boys and our girls They offered us cans of food that curdled And piled on chains by the ton. Blue Sun. Blue Sun. Another corporation With their hand on the gun Blue Sun. Blue Sun. Free yourself to run From Blue Sun You see their emblem emblazoned on crates On walls, on wombs, even on your dates You may fall victim to their seductive gaze So raise up your hands to shun Their manacles we'll cast off our tired wrists. Their suits we'll pummel with our bloodied fists Cut through the red tape and expunge the vile cyst That cripples our will to run So raise up your voice and shout to the firm Let those who control know what it feels like to squirm Their products we won't buy, but oh they shall burn For this is their will undone Key F verse: [C]They terraformed the lands of many fine worlds Then [Am]bloodied our hands with our [Bb]boys and our [C]girls They [F]offered us cans of [C]food that curdled And [Bb]piled on chains by the [C]ton. chorus: Blue [F]Sun. Blue [C]Sun. Another [Bb]corporation Intent on no [C]fun Blue [F]Sun. Blue [C]Sun. [Bb]Free yourself to [C]run From Blue [F]Sun

I met her on the Outer Rim. She was a beauty. There's no denial. We danced around the fire that night. In the morning, I awoke all smiles. But when my boat hit atmo, And she said that we were married. Twas then I vowed I'd never again Leave quick when I should tarry. She said her name was Saffron, A prize for work done well. I know we'd done some good works, But this time we must've excelled. For her smile it made my legs week And her breasts they made me weeze Oh if I was a different man, Then I'd show her the Real me. That night I found her in my bunk Lying naked in my bed. She gave me the Goodnight Kiss And I thought that I was dead. We'd all be but for Inyara… Oh, I wonder how she knew? But what I really wish is I could've seen The kiss between those two. But that's not the point of this song, right now, From this lesson I learned too well. If you take strange women into your bed You may end up in the Special Hell. Either pin her down or set her free Just don't let your plan go South. If that doesn't work, then follow Jayne's advice, “Never kiss them on the mouth.”

There's a Bug in Cabin Six lyrics Rie Sheridan Rose, music Marc Gunn [D]When first I boarded a ship, [D7]to journey to the Rim [G]captain said one thing, when [D]first I met with him. "There's a [A]place you cannot go to if you [A7]wander through the ship. You [G]always must remember— there's a [A]bug in Cabin [D]Six. "I'm not sure how it got there… I just know that it is… it ate poor Private Carson— that Cabin once was his. Then he shook his fist in warning but I snuck down for kicks… and peeked into the door hatch of forbidden Cabin Six... The window was quite filthy, but I got quite a shock when I saw what they were hiding behind that flimsy lock. Stood high as my shoulder, on legs like pogo sticks, with three full sets of chompers… that bug in Cabin Six. I think I wound up screaming. I really think I did. Because it looked right through me-- in the hallway where I hid. I ran back to my berth, and double locks I clicked… so I would not get eaten by the bug in Cabin Six. You may think this just a story, a tall tale wrapped in song-- but I will tell you truly… that logic is all wrong. Somewhere in that wasteland… in that black and starry mix… that ship is still a-sailing, with a bug in Cabin Six! You may think this just a story, a tall tale wrapped in song-- but somewhere in the Black that bug is sailing on!

Close your eyes and sleep There are reavers in your dreams Go to sleep my darling There's a reaver underneath your bed The reavers in your bed are gonna eat your face Stay in your bed There are griswalds on the floor The reavers in your bed Are gonna eat your face Sugar and spice and everything nice Why do you think we say that It's so the reavers in your bed Will want to eat your face You used to have a sister She wouldn't go to sleep So the reavers beneath her bed Ate her face Do not call for your mother Who is that you think who let the reavers in To eat your face Snakes and snails and puppy dog tails Who can account for the taste of reavers The reavers in your bed Are gonna eat your face Baby don't you cry Or the reavers won't wait til you fall asleep Before they eat your face My father sang this song to me But he slipped and fell on a griswald And the reavers beneath my bed Ate his face That is not a blanket Good night.

Browncoats rise again with a new album of music inspired by Joss Whedon's cancelled Sci Fi Western hit series.

Even 15 years after the show was released, I find myself as passionate about Joss Whedon's Firefly as ever. I wrote my first Firefly filk in 2007. In 2011, I recorded Firefly Drinking Songs with the Bedlam Bards. It is still one of my most-popular albums. It led to a series of Firefly Drinking Songs shows that I perform at conventions. Now it is the source of my next album to be released in 2018 in the face of major changes in the music industry.
